If I was Jed for a day

 I believe Jed Hoyer, the Cubs general Manager has the easiest job in baseball.  Spend a lot of money, keep the team a little better than average, and let Wrigley Field pack itself.  Rinse and repeat.  So today, I get to be Jed.  My first call is to the Detroit Tigers.  The Cubs need a Tarik Skubal.  I'm not sure what it takes to get him, but I'm offering.  Chicago talk radio says it will take Matt Shaw, Kevin Alcantara, Moises Ballesteros, Jaxon Wiggins, and maybe even Owen Cassie.  That is a ton of potential.  I don't want to get rid of Cassie because i believe he has extreme power in his future.  That being said, Skubal makes the Cubs a World Series contender today. Possibly only add Cassie to the deal if the Tigers will include Parker Meadows, as they have an abundance of young outfielders and adding Cassie would make Meadows expendable to the Tigers.  This trade is giving up some long term potential to win now.  Which large market teams should always be paying to win now.  Next is easy.  Sign Alex Bregman.  He is an absolute elite power bat.  Not Signing Tucker means the Cubs have plenty of money. And Bregman, unlike Ian Happ is a consistent power bat in the middle of the line-up. Speaking of Happ.  He currently has a no trade clause.  I would beg Happ to accept a trade to Cincinnati, his home town team and his college city.  Happ's career numbers are outrageous in Cincinnati (1.272 OPS) and he might be willing to end his career at home.  What the Cubs might get for him is minimal, but I will take a bucket of batting practice balls. Next sign Michael King.  The cubs need a power arm and King is young enough (age 30) to give you a flamethrower for a few years.  To fill the open outfield spot left by Happ, I would sign Max Kepler.  He is a low cost great team player with a 1.6 WAR. These moves make the Cubs a great defensive team with enough pop in the lineup to complete.  And an absolute dominating pitching staff.  

Pitching Staff: Skubal, Horton, King, Steele, Taillon or Shota

Order: Horner, Suzuki, Bregman, Bush, PCA, Amaya, Cassie (or Meadows), Kepler, Dansby.
