GO WHITE SOX, GO GO WHITE SOX!!!!

While listening to the White Sox vs. Blue Jays game on Saturday, viewers at home were treated to a slightly inebriated fan yelling the famous battle cry of the 1959 White Sox World Series team.  The absolute enjoyment of seeing his team win a game against the defending World Series American League Qualifiers was obvious.  The White Sox fans have suffered through a very tough few years most recently, and it had to be refreshing to not only win on Saturday, but to sweep the mighty Toronto Blue Jays over the weekend. How did they pull off their first sweep of the Blue Jays in over ten seasons?

The White Sox came into this season with a little positive energy with how the last season ended, and the familiarity of the new coaching staff and young players had many betting the over of 65 wins.  A tough first week against the powerful Brewers and upstart Marlins dampened expectation immediately for some, but the young core of players seemed unfazed coming home.  The biggest improvement for the Sox was in their starting pitching.  Cru's Corner has a little egg in the face after bashing the starters hard in the opening week but they really came through. Davis Martin threw six solid innings on Sunday and the White Sox bullpen worked together to get the other key outs on Friday and Saturday to keep the Jays in check.  An especially good performance from Sean Burke and Anthony Kay.  Seranthony Dominguez also closed two of the games earning the saves.  The long-term plan probably can't rely on bullpen games to carry the win totals, but it was great to see that performance.

Maybe the more impressive outcome for the White Sox was their timely hitting.  Throughout the three game series, players came through in the clutch almost every time it was needed.  Colson Montgomery and Murakami both had big home runs over the weekend, and Miguel Vargas opened the scoring on Sunday with a huge triple.  Vargas has been a really nice find for the White Sox both offensively and defensively at third base.  His development could be the key to the Sox having huge flexibility when they draft Roch Cholowsky.  Colson is an elite athlete and could be a powerful upgrade option for the Sox in the corner outfield spot, where they badly need help.  If Vargas can stick at third, Colson or Roch immediately upgrades the outfield.  Remember Cru's Corner has the Pirates finally making the playoffs this season and the White Sox following a similar path to making the playoffs in 2027.  This weekend sure looked like progress.

  1. Things are looking bad for the Cubs day by day. Now I hear Matthew Boyd will be placed on the injured list! It’s going to be a long season for my Cubs!
Hopefully, the Sox will continue to improve and STAY HEALTHY! The weekend series with the Blue Jays will definitely boost their confidence!
